What Are PFAS

PFAS Explained.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) represent thousands of synthetic chemicals that repel water, oil, and grease. Over the past 60 years, PFAS have been integrated into numerous industrial and consumer products. PFAS have been used in common products, including non-stick cookware, clothing materials, carpets, firefighting foams (aqueous film forming foam - AFFF), and various other products designed to resist grease, water, and oil. PFAS have strong carbon-fluorine chemical bonds that prevent their breakdown in nature and eventually allowing them to enter the water supply.

As a result, scientists have been studying the health impact of PFAS, concluding that exposure causes numerous health effects.

What are considered safe levels of PFAS?

The United States Environmental Protection (EPA) recently announced the final National Primary Drinking Water Regulation (NPDWR) for six PFAS.

Compound Final MCLG Final MCL
(enforceable levels)
PFOA Zero 4.0 parts per trillion (ppt)
(also expressed as ng/L)
PFOS Zero 4.0 ppt
PFHxS 10 ppt 10 ppt
PFNA 10 ppt 10 ppt
HFPO-DA (commonly known as GenX Chemicals) 10 ppt 10 ppt
Mixtures containing two or more of PFHxS, PFNA, HFPO-DA, and PFBS 1 (unitless)

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that "if your drinking water is contaminated above levels specified by the EPA or your state government, use an alternate water source for drinking, preparing food, cooking, brushing teeth, and any other activity when you might swallow water."

Outstanding Results.

FLUORO-SORB® adsorbent outperforms other sorbents by consistently capturing a wide range of PFAS compounds, including PFOA, PFOS, PFBS, PFHxS, PFNA, and GenX. Its PFAS adsorption capacity is minimally impacted by the presence of other substances, such as Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC), Total Organic Carbon (TOC), salinity, and varying pH levels.
